At Langalo, we've long collaborated with international students, offering essential language services such as foreign credential evaluations and translations of diplomas and transcripts

Through our work, we witness firsthand the dedication, resilience, and qualifications these students bring to our country. Indeed, their contributions enrich not only our educational institutions, but also our broader communities.

So how do international students benefit us all?

International Students Enrich Campus Life

According to the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), enrolling international students in higher education enhances domestic students’ overall campus experience.

Students benefit greatly from exposure to their international classmates’ cultural traditions, cuisine, music, and perspectives — fostering cross-cultural adaptability and curiosity that help them thrive in multicultural environments post-graduation.

That’s why students who engage with peers from other countries build stronger intercultural skills and empathy, even if they haven’t studied or traveled abroad!

They Broaden Classroom Discussions With Global Perspectives

Great classroom environments foster intellectual growth through the exchange of diverse viewpoints, values, and beliefs. International students contribute to this dynamic by challenging assumptions, encouraging open dialogue, and enriching discussions with their lived experiences.

In today's globalized world, learning and living alongside international students helps all students expand their knowledge of broader cultural and international issues, break down stereotypes, sharpen their listening and critical thinking skills, while also building lifelong personal and professional connections that will benefit them throughout their professional career.

They Boost the U.S. Economy

In the 2023 - 2024 academic year alone, over a million international students in higher education contributed $43.8 billion to the U.S. economy and supported over 378,000 jobs.

Their spending on tuition, housing, food, and other living expenses stimulates local economies and supports employment across various sectors.

They Power Innovation in STEM and Beyond

As of 2022, international students accounted for over 56% of graduate enrollments in engineering and computer science, and nearly 60% of Ph.D. students in computer science.

Their contributions have fueled major technological advances and helped launch numerous startups – cementing the U.S. as a global leader in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

They Build Global Bridges That Last a Lifetime

The relationships forged by international students extend beyond campus borders, fostering global networks and diplomatic ties. Many alumni return to their home countries to become leaders and advocates for international collaboration.

These enduring personal and professional networks foster diplomacy, mutual understanding, and a more interconnected global society.

They Don’t Take Resources – They Add Value

Contrary to popular myths, international students do not deplete U.S. resources or take jobs from domestic students.

They typically pay full tuition, receive limited financial aid, and face strict employment restrictions. In fact, research shows their presence helps fill critical skill gaps and complement the U.S. workforce, boosting long-term economic growth.

They Are Essential to a Thriving and Inclusive Future

International students are vital to the fabric of American higher education and society. Their diverse contributions elevate academic excellence, spark innovation, and strengthen global ties.

As policies evolve, we must continue to recognize – and advocate for – their invaluable role in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous future.
